Welch, Spring & Co., Forestville, Conn., GERSTER, V.P. model from the famous Patti series. Collectors are aware that Welch named the Patti model for Adelina Patti, the world renowned opera singer, but few know this model was named after Etelka Gerster (1855-1920), one of the most famous opera singers of her time. Like the similar Patti and Cary models, it is rosewood with finely turned corner columns and decorative buttons, and a pendulum with decorative glass button in the center, c1880. -
