Description
This classic iron-front clock is attributed to D.S. Crosby in New York ca 1856. Although there is no label inside the case or other identifying marks, the case is in the typical style that Crosby produced. The unmarked movement was made by the New Haven Clock Company from whom Crosby purchased mechanisms for his clocks. An article in the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Bulletin No. 345 (page 500) illustrates Crosby's iron front production style which further aids in the identification of this exceptional piece. It retains its original hand-painted scenes on the case as well as the original paper covered dial and brass eight day movement with a strike on the hours. The movement has been professionally cleaned and serviced to assure good running and striking (chiming) condition. The open work and bold embellishments on the case mark this as one of their better...high-end production pieces. Height: 20 in. (50.80 cm) Depth: 5 in. (12.70 cm) Width: 16 in. (40.64 cm) Weight: 10
