Black Forest, wall clock, 30 hour, time and strike, weight driven wood plate movement in a wood case with ebonized trim, polychrome back painted glass dial featuring two men in 18th century minersi uniforms, a foundry scene, and the words "Gl,ck auf!" ("good luck") -- a greeting German miners used when wishing one another luck. The transferred design on the crest has related imagery including the crossed hammer and pick, a pan, shovel, and lantern. Below the dial on the case are the words "Gott mit uns" ("God with us") which was often used on Prussian heraldry as an expression of unity. On the bracket at the base of the clock is an eagle typical of the Prussian coat of arms. -
Unsigned, Connecticut and North Attleboro, Massachusetts, banjo wall clock, with poplar and mahogany veneered case, painted zinc roman numeral dial with moon hands, beveled flat frames enclosing the painted glasses, the waist glass flanked by brass side ornaments in black and gold, the lower glass, a later transfer and paint decorated American eagle perched on the American shield and olive branches, eight day brass movement with recoil escapement, lantern pinions, lead weight and pendulum. -
