German {in the English style} large fusee bracket clock, retailed at 29 Church St, Liverpool by Frisch Schierwater and Co (on dial), an ebonized case with cast brass "jester" caryatids to the corners, fancy cast brass side frets, all surmounted by a giant urn and flame finial, with smaller finials to the corners, the whole resting on "toed" feet. Note this clock chimes Westminster quarters on 4 tuned flat wire gongs and strikes the hours on a much larger 5th deep toned gong. Subsidiary dials on the arched dial are for Fast / Slow and Chime / Silent. The dial with cast spandrels of winged cherubs on both the dial corners and at the apex of the arch, and gilt foliate castings filling in other areas. Note this is a two [2] fusee clock, with reliable quarter chime and strike system designed by Winterhalder and Hofmeier....see horizontal pins on rear of tune drum to perform strike. C.1890 -
