Description
this clock came originally from the Meraux collection and was sold by Sotheby's in 1993. Derek Roberts used the photo as an illustration in his book "Mystery, Novelty and Fantasy Clocks" (1999) and can be seen on page 258. Note that cracks in the marble base and the missing compass line up exactly with the photo. The movement is wound by a key on the right side, with a long shaft with pinion engaging a contrate wheel, the pinion not engaging. The platform on the small movement needs attention. Ht 8"
