Description
Over the years we have sold hundreds of Vienna clocks but probably only 3-4 with movements of this type. This is an early Serpentine style walnut case, has three glasses; one finial, and a long tapered tail. The 8 day brass movement is not signed anywhere, is seat board mounted, sliding into wooden plates attached to the back board. The coil gong is attached to the back of the movement in the manner that movements having a Sonnerie or Grand Sonnerie strike have, and it has two strike hammers, one for the hours and another for the quarter hours. Brass pendulum bob, wood stick, brass pulley, and brass weight. Two piece porcelain dial has faint hairlines in several places and a small chip at 11 o'clock. The hands are typical Vienna hands. At the bottom is a porcelain beat scale and wall levelers.
