Description
The dark oak case is 72" high, which is six feet from the top of the original removable top to the tip of the bottom finial. It is one big clock. It is almost impossible for two men to hang it and feel comfortable turning loose of the clock. You will want to make sure your screw or nail is in solid wood. There are nice carvings on the top piece and above the dial, full turned columns and finials, plenty of applied wood ornaments, and other moldings and nice wood work. The tail tapers down and is very thin at the bottom. It is easy to see why it would crack or break if you pick it up at the bottom. That is a no-no. The tail has been nicely repaired and the repairs are invisible unless inspected closely. Everything started life together with this clock. The dial center, pendulum, and three weights, all have matching engravings. Porcelain beat scale in the bottom, two correct early Vienna hands, and a silver dial ring. The clock is running and striking the coil gongs behind the movement. Nothing is signed, movement, dial, or case.
