Description
It has the appearance of a bracket clock. The little cuckoo door is hidden or disguised and blends in with the carvings at the top. The 16" walnut case has a cathedral top, barley twist and ripple type moldings around the door and more carvings below the door. The elaborately made walnut case has small openings on the side for the sound to escape the box. Silver dial ring needs to be polished/cleaned, as black paint has smeared. Hands are correct, brass spandrels on the dial plate corners, dappled brass inner dial. Hinged back door with latch, hinged front door with a beveled glass. 8 day brass movement is signed, running robustly and striking a large standing gong on the hours and half hours. It strikes the gong, then cuckoo's. At 6 o'clock it strikes the gong 6 times and it cuckoo's 6 times, half hour just one time each. We have only sold one other rare cuckoo of this type.
