Description
Condition: good American movement has trapezoid cut out in both plates, and unusual pillars associated with eastern Conn. The original dial is probably English, with 2 colorful birds in the arch; has gilt + colored fan spandrels in the corners; hour and minute hand are original, sec hand replaced; winding grommets are absent. The case has lovely flame pattern in the solid cherry door. The hood likely had a flat top, and the arch and finials are probably C.1900 additions (also of cherry). With some imaginative restoration to the hood, this would become a first class New England tall clock. Owned around 1890 by Henry Rogers, 75 Broadway, New Haven, Conn, with attest on case back.
