Description

walnut case with gooseneck pediment, arched top door, flanked by turned columns, tombstone-topped door and canted quarter columns on waist, ogee bracket feet. Secondary wood is southern yellow pine (single board back), nailed, dovetailed and mortise and pin construction. Brass bell strike Black Forest movement set in original mixed wood frame (birch & pine/spruce), frame stamped "KD", painted polychrome wood tombstone-shaped dial with raised Roman numerals, flanked by ribbon-wrapped torches and topped with roses and maker's or painter's mark of "MB. Rear of works frame inscribed in ink" No. 13 Theodor West Fartwagner". Appears to be original finish. Includes original hand-wrought steel clock key. 101.5" high x 18" wide x 13" deep. Clock was brought from Caboras Co., NC. Children's Museum of Indianapolis Damage to feet with one front and one rear partially missing, shrinkage crack in lower case, both goosenecks have been broken and repaired, missing all three finials, bell, striker & one weight, pendulum rod original, weight is replaced, glass & hinges on bonnet door replaced, door with newer steel brackets added to interior, somewhat rough condition, but worthy of restoration.
