Description

Condition: Mahogany veneered case in very good condition with an old finish that has some veneer loss on the bottom and the top edge of the cornice. Original dial has been repainted and lacks the original mirror that slides up to reveal the escapement. Brass hands are original (oxidized dark). Case houses a large Ives strap brass movement that was most likely made and cased by Birge and Case, Bristol. There is evidence the case originally had ball feet. All three door glasses are old, but maybe replacements with the wrong designs now painted on them. The key escutcheons on the doors are a replacement. Retains nice early gong with square base, introduced in 1837, and good original weights. Ht 34" [86.4 cm]
