Description

Condition: the feet and scrolls are original; the case has been refinished and there is some repair around the escutcheon, which has been replaced. The Seth Thomas movement is original, but has a new escape wheel, and 3 visible nylon bushings. The dial is original with some horizontal stress and flaking. The best part of this clock is the original tablet, which has had minor repair, but is one of the nicest original tablets around. This very clock was used by C. Bailey as the cover on the Bulletin of the Connecticut Historical Society in 1973, in an article titled "160 Years of Seth Thomas Clocks". This clock bears its brass plaque, as clock No. 62 of the original J. Cheney Wells collection. Although the finials are Terry type, rather than Seth Thomas, they are 3 matched period finials. Roller covers intact. Height 31 inches
