Description

Condition: the crotch mahogany veneer is well figured, refinished some time ago. The mirror is a replacement. The top tablet has applied gold leaf on the reverse, while the originals were simply mirror, with a round opening for the dial. The heavy and robust fusee movement has a unique lever escapement. The dial is original, with some flaking, and a strong signature. Minute hand tip is broken away; F/S pointer is absent. This was clock No. 69 in the original batch of clocks given to Old Sturbridge Village by Cheney Wells, and with a brass plaque inside the case. For additional details on a similar clock, see Tran Duy Ly's book titled American Clocks, Volume Three, page 121. A nice example of an uncommon clock. Height 36 inches
