Description

The silver dial is signed by the maker, "John Cook and Son, Greenock". John Cook was active in the period 1820-1836, but his firm John Cook and Son, worked until 1860. Greenock is a small town near Glasgow, Scotland. As was customary in those days this movement was probably cased and sold in London. Excellent 8 inches silver dial, etched for black numerals, hands questionable. Pendulum is most unusual with a cylinder bob on a wood stick. Front door is carved and there is a carved insert behind the glass. After taking the picture, I have determined the insert should have been raised to go underneath the dial. 21.5 inches high mahogany case is clean and polished. It carries a few bumps and bruises but no more than any other clock this age. Front and back, key locking doors with a key. Back door is covered with a brass grill and cloth backing. Strikes a large coil gong each hour and is running briskly.
