Description
This will be difficult to explain, but we will try. The clock is a Seth Thomas Sonora Chime, both movements in place, but no Sonora bells. It is attached to a large base, possibly from a large clock. The wood matches perfectly and looks like they came together. There are five brass bells of various sizes attached to the outside. These are high quality brass bells, with good tone. The time and strike movement rings the top bell on the hours, quarters, whatever; while the Sonora bottom movement has 4 strings from the gong hammers, underneath the case to the 4 lower bells. Like a Sonora, they ring separately. The hammers lift, pulling the string that rings the bell. In the base of the case, he rigged up a deal to hold 4 C or D batteries that turn on the two lights. I am not sure if they blink, stay lit all the time, or light only when bells are ringing. As it sits, it is 21 inches wide and about 22 inches tall. The clock is running but I did not tinker with the strings or hook up any batteries. The front ornament was glued onto the case, no holes. It is a nice painting of flowers, metal decorations and small pearls around the edge. Just as I finished this write up, most or all the bells rang, so they evidently work.
