Description

This very attractive pillar and scroll mantle clock was made around 1826 by Seth Thomas in Plymouth, Connecticut. The lower door glass has a dramatic naval scene featuring tall sailing ships surrounded by a gold-leaf border and 'bob' window (see photograph). The gold leaf border is equally bright on all sides...however its VERY difficult to photograph gold borders without camera flash glare and shadow effects. There is an old, double repair to the right upper scroll and the small 'tips' on the bottom skirt have become rounded through the years. The wooden works runs well and strikes the hours properly on a sweet cupped bell. An original paper label inside the case is stained but perfectly readable (see photograph). Overall-this is ONE VERY FINE CLOCK that retains its originality with the reverse painted lower glass professionally restored. Be sure to note the wonderful and colorful dial with a musical lyre and notes in the center(see photograph)! These 30 hour pillar and scroll wooden works clocks have become so popular with serious clock collectors that we are now shipping them world-wide! One is on it's way to a buyer in Australia as I write this description. Our Master Clock Serviceman inspects and repairs (if necessary) all the wood works clocks that we offer for sale, to assure the buyer that they will run well when received. The rear of this clock's case retains it original tin dust cover and the top has the little tin-cup dust covers over both pulleys. Three brass finials are the correct Seth Thomas type design. We will ship this clock safely to your home if you are unable to come for it in person. Height: 32 in. (81.28 cm) Depth: 5 in. (12.70 cm) Width: 17 in. (43.18 cm) Weight: 10
