Seth Thomas outside ships bell Marine clock with wood back, circa May 1901(dated on the back). The Nate Lash Model. Maker: Seth Thomas, Thomaston Conn. Size: 10 1/4" long, 3 1/2" deep, 6 1/4" bezel diameter, silver over brass dial. Bell diameter is 3 3/4". Seth Thomas was the first company to produce this Marine ships bell clock for public consumption at the price of $6.75. Seth Thomas had the patent for this clock on Nov. 1st 1870. Condition: Mint restored. The one-day ships strike movement has been professionally rebuilt; all pivots resurfaced and polished, new bronze bushings, original hair spring has been demagnetized and repoised, balance staff pivots have been repointed. The solid brass case has been polished to a mirror finish and sealed. The clock is just like the day it was made. The clock is 100% original. No alterations from its original state. The clock runs accurately and strikes correctly; 8 bells at 4, 8, and 12 o'clock, 1 bell at 4:30, 8:30, and 12:30, 2 bells at 5, 9, and 1 o'clock, etc. There are no cracks or splits in the brass case or bell. This is a hinged bezel case. There are two other Seth Thomas ships bell clocks listed, inventory No. 5083 and 4995. All of the ships bells featured strike sharp and clear. There is no evidence of a paper label ever being on the back.
