Description

French antique gold gilt railroad presentation clock. SIZE: 11 1/2" by 7 1/2" by 2 1/2". This gold gilt French clock was probably a presentation to a retiring railroad executive in 1860. Note the old steam locomotive on the top. The 3" porcelain dial is perfect. The clock never had a glass crystal covering the dial. Originally it sat under an oval glass dome; that is why the gold is so well-preserved. The metal case which looks like brass has no damage or repairs. The original silk thread clockworks is long gone. It is now fitted with an accurate quartz clock movement. There is no damage to the case resulting from the conversion. We are currently listing many very good clock cases that the original works were either butchered or missing. I have given up trying to find the proper period works. These are all in wonderful condition and at a third of the price of a complete original.
