Description

American antique folk art clock, hand carved owl, 30 hour, original finish. Dated 1850, this well-detailed owl clock is hand carved. The wood appears to be oak with original finish. The clockworks are 30 hour and it keeps surprisingly good time. Many additional photos. The movement is unmarked, could be an early EN Welch or Jerome. It has a large balance wheel. The brass bezel is polished and has a patent date May 10, 1850. The eyes are glass and one is cracked. (See photo). The tip of one ear was broken and has been properly repaired years ago. The point to the beak is also broken away. Because of the overall finish and color you have to look closely and really study the nose. All the tips to the toes are present. The dial has been restored. This is a rare example, and I am still doing research in reference books. Condition is very good. Base: 6 1/2" diameter, height to tip of ears 12 1/2". Time only clockworks, original to the case.
