Description

The silvered dial is signed for Ashton, a family of clockmakers who worked in the area from Macclesfield to Ashbourne from the 1750s to well into the 19th century. This clock was made in circa 1790 by John Ashton of Leek. The clock has not run for at least 50 years (we estimate). The case has been waxed and the dial re-silvered. The movement has been stripped, cleaned and overhauled.
