Description

The head piece may not be original to the case but if not was made especially for this case. There is an excel-lent set of 6 finials, carving on the headpiece, top and bottom of the grooved half columns, a typically well made Vienna blending the various shades of walnut veneers and other wood pieces. There are 3 good glasses, porcelain beat scale, and beautifully engraved pendulum bob, weights, and dial center with all the brass polished and in good condition. The unusual thing about this clock is the 8 day movement. This 2 weight movement has 2 hammers, 2 coiled gongs mounted on the back plate in the same manner as a 3 weight Vienna. On the hour, the right hand hammer strikes once, then the left hand hammer strikes the number of hours. On the half hour the right hand hammer strikes once, then the left hand hammer strikes once also. Unknown to my many Vienna customers, but my guess is the first strike is to let you know that the hours or half hours are about to be struck. Anyway it runs, strikes properly and is all housed in a very nice, tight case. The movement is unsigned but has serial number 37207.
