Description
Condition: the original wooden dial, although primitive, has been re-blacked; surface paint and bees in corners are original. There are old repairs to case top and lower door lock (lock now missing), and seat board (one side broke and was extended. This clock would have stood on the mantel of a country farmhouse in northern New England, the product of a local cabinet/clock-maker. The movement is similar to that of a banjo clock. The case probably had some type of baffle to keep the weight separate from the pendulum; weight with the letters ÓJHÒ cast in. There is plenty of dirt and shrinkage to support our estimated date, but no other evidence of a maker. Other than recent throat glass, a legitimate piece of Americana. Height 34.5 inches
