Circa 1889 3 1/4 inches enamel dial, slightly convex, 8-day, circular brass movement with Marti medallion, rare and unusual allegorical North Pole balloon expedition figural clock made for the 1889 Paris exposition, heavy red variegated marble base, with seahorses, bears, walrus, balloon in clouds with ribbons and "Gloria the Victor" pointing towards North Pole holding torch, plaque on case reads "Aug. Moreau AU NORD POLE" -- August Moreau was one of the most celebrated sculptors of his time, this is a wonderful clock depicting the exciting times of attaining passage to the North Pole, very good restored condition, the dial has flaking near winding arbors and looks good, case refinished. Height 34 inches
