Description
Typical French case that looks like a coffin. Original tole paint featuring flowers, vines, and leaves. Paint still pretty bright and detailed. There is some oldworm damage on the side of the bonnet, and the worms were eradicated longago. The case is 94" high, which is perfect for modern 8 foot ceilings. Themorbier movements are always well constructed, larger than other movements, and encased in an iron box. In the early days the companies would guarantee these movements for 25 years. The movement has a crown wheel escapement, strikeshours on a large bell on top of the box. The stamped metal dial surround featurespeacocks and a basket of fruit. The dial surround has a signature but I canÕtdecipher. The hands are unusual, note the sunburst or "spurs" at the ends. The porcelain dial has suffered terribly. No doubt took a tumble. It hasbeen repaired poorly in several places. The dial is signed, "Laurent Mouchet".Round brass pendulum bob with a metal stick that folds in 2 places for easytransportation. Two old iron weights could well be original, and an old key.The only apologies I have are for the dial. Everything else you can blameon age.
