Description
Early French style movement signed by Seth Thomas, outside count wheel, standing cathedral gong. The heavy marble case is rife with problems, such as many broken corners, and chips all around. I know the case is a dog but we see very few clocks with Seth Thomas open escapement movements. The French sash, beveled glass, 2 piece porcelain dial, are plenty good enough to polish up and put in another case. Brass back door is cut out, cloth covered, like all fine clocks. Now the surprise, at least to me, a painted label on the back. I am pretty sure it says, "U.S. Clock and Case Co. Cincinnati, USA, Pat.- - - - 83". The NAWCC Bulletin Index doesnÕt show this company. I am guessing they made or bought cases, bought movements from Seth Thomas or others, and sold the finished product. I would be interested in any information you have about this company.
