Description
The case behind the mirror was refinished some time ago; the mirror frame is original; the mirror itself a period replacement (now absent wooden backing); the tablet surrounding the dial is a replacement. The case is nicely constructed using half blind dovetails. The movement has a rat-trap striking system. Clocks with this type of movement where known to have been made by Abiel Chandler of Concord, NH. The hands and dial are original; dial re-lined over original background. The two weights were custom cast in 1950, after the repairman carefully made two uniquely shaped models (very nicely done). An interior photo showing this movement can be found in "The American Clock" by Distin and Bishop, pg. 258. Height 30Ó $2,500-$3,500
