Description

"Improved Clocks, Manufactured by Atkins & Downs, for Mitchell & Atkins, Bristol, Conn", ca 1831-1832. These were the only years Atkins & Downs were in business. 30 hour wood movement, strikes an iron bell. Weights, pendulum, and hands, are period with the clock. Beautiful wood dial, original glasses-need paint on the back side to protect them from further flaking. The best original half columns and splat I have seen, rich gold on black. Almost perfect full label. 32 inch mahogany veneer case has only one flaw, veneer chipped around the ivory escutcheon. Lock appears to be complete, no key.
