Description
English wall clock, ca 1840. This type clock evolved from the 1700's "Act of Parliament" and "Tavern Clock". It is essentially an office clock with a large case below to conceal the long brass pendulum and the big iron weight. The hood is like the English Tall Clock hoods, pulls off to gain access to the dial and movement. Slant bottom base on this 50 inch pine case. If there was ever paint on the case it sure isn't evident. I suspect it has always been a clean pine case. 8 day, time only, running. 10 inch painted iron dial. Movement supported in the case like a tall clock movement, on a seat board. Dial has painted flowers and is marked for 60 minutes. A superb clock that has had only minor restoration over the l60 years.
