Description
This is a short pendulum movement, with suspension spring, and with Japy Medaille D'Or trademark (received in 1855). There are several pages of annular dial clocks in book 2 of Tardys; we include a detail image of one that is virtually identical to this one. A driveshaft ascends from the movement, up the stem of the urn and drives the minute and hour dials, each with 12 individual porcelain cartouches. The time itself is indicated by the tongue of the serpent, coiled 'round the urn. Each of the 4 ovals on the base has a Sevres porcelain china panel, each with a floral spray, well painted with brilliant colors. Height 15"
