Description
reflecting the enamel over copper work of country artisans during the reign of Ferdinand I. This and the next lot are truly exceptional pieces in terms of "lots going on". A reversed cup base is decorated with 4 miniature scenes, each separated by a cherub with a blue and red bib. Then a large round drum supports a miniature elephant with 2 monkeys on his back plus the clock itself, surmounted by an eagle. The movement is an early verge/ chain fusee from a watch. These miniatures were meant as a keepsake, and often utilized whatever type movement the artisan could come up with. Height 7" (18cm)
