Description

time only, caryatid case. This is an exceptional rococo style clock in wonderful original condition. The movement is not an adapted watch movement, but rather a tiny carriage movement with a tiny platform spanning the plates, and visible through the small beveled glass at top. For reference, see Fine Carriage Clocks, by Terwilliger and Fanelli, page 76, number 32. Where that clock has limoge panels, this one has gilt and engraved overlay masks. Movement numbered 1623; case retains original bright gilding, with some wear spots; and with a worn travel case missing front panel. Also refer to lot 424, which is of lower quality than this one. Height with handle up, 3.5"
