Description
(first year on calendar in base), French, Industrial Series "Street Clock" automaton. In 31 years of collecting, this is the first one of these I have seen. The 5 inch sphere at the top contains a small platform timepiece on one side and an Aneroid barometer on the other; the vent on top of the sphere houses a compass. The sphere is connected to a spring motor in the base via a shaft extending down the post. In addition, the base contains a manual calendar (in Spanish) with windows for Day, date, month and year (1880ó1901). The calendar is a little sticky but all 4 silvered brass rings will travel in a full circle; two of their adjusting knobs have been renewed. A very pleasant (and unusual) motif in this series. Height 23"
