Description

for Payne Co., New Bond St, London, brass cased carriage clock, time, strike and repeat, with restorations. This was once an elegant clock, but was dropped some time ago. The porcelain dial has spider web cracks along the left side, the rear glass is chipped and the rear door has been reinforced with an extra strip of brass to hold it together. We are guessing these repairs were made around 1950, as the platform was replaced with a French model, stamped: "French Escapement, 11 jewels", and those were discontinued shortly thereafter. Otherwise, this is a decent clock, running and striking, and is a good value at our estimate. The Payne information is prominently engraved at the bottom of the back plate. Strikes on a bell. Height 6"
