Description

Petit Sonnerie with alarm and repeat. This ROCOCO case is cast and finished in high relief, the corner columns appear as twisted vines with birds and salamanders. Each corner of the top has a flying squirrel, and each corner of the base a spread winged bird, the center with dogs chasing a pig. This case is pictured in Charles Allix book Carriage Clocks, page 179. The dial mask is profusely engraved with flowers and leaves in exquisite detail; both porcelain dials are excellent. But the best parts are the wonderful hand painted panels on each side showing a fantasy of winged cherubs at play (see detail images). Original platform intact; movement signed Ch. Grottendieck, Bruxelles. Height (handle up) 7" $3500-4500
