Description

An unusual hooded clock, the movement a twin fusee with anchor escape, and heavy baluster pillars. The movement is mounted to a seatboard just as if it were a tall clock, and the "hood" and short trunk are made in exactly the same fashion as an oak tall case of the same period. The movement has been cleaned and is running and strikingŠ except that the gathering pallet is a quarter turn off, leaving the hammer in the air when it should be at rest (a simple adjustment). Interestingly, Watkins has chosen to put the rack, snail, and gathering pallet on the rear of the back plate rather than on the front as usual. As to value, we feel this must be in the same category as a provincial 2-fusee bracket clock. Height 19" Reserve $800
